Looks like a really good product!

Some pre-sales questions:

1. Does this product "phone home" like phpmanager? (If phpmanager's server is down, so is my install of phpmanager  . Will your product have the same problem?

2. Does clientexec interface with control panels to add, delete, suspend, etc web accounts? If so, will it support the ensim control panel?

3. Do you need any more alpha/beta testers (using paypal, manual check by mail payments, and ensim)?

1. At the moment it currently does not, but it will be implemented before final release I believe. It will not be like phpmanagers lame excuse though, I had the same problem with phpmanager being down yesterday.

2. The Control Panel Integration will be coming later after the release of 1.0

3. Not sure what the status of signing up new alpha testers are, im sure Alberto will reply and let you know.

(Im an alpha tester that currently uses phpmanager so know how you feel!)

Wow, thanks for the quick reply...

So to clarify question #1, once released, Clientexec will "phone home" like phpmanager, but hopefully the server it connects to won't go down. Is this correct?

Just want to state that we will be looking for a "phone home" type approach, but a bit more flexible. Our alpha testers will make sure that it is a system we can all live with.

At the moment we are not taking any more alpha testers, but we will have a 14 day beta trial once we release it.

Thanks for your interest.

Alberto,
I was also bitten by that phpmanager 'bug'.
Would it be possible to encode the installation script, have it call home on install and write this info to a local cfg file (encrypted/encoded), and then just have your program check it's installed IP at run time? If the installed IP doesn't match (or find) the cfg file (also encoded/encrypted) it disables everything.

Or perhaps when CE is purchased, you have an IP specific encoded file that must be present to run, and it contains the purchased IP address? Then on mounting the program, it looks at the file and checks where it's installed. Mismatch, and it won't run.

Would this work, and still protect your code and business?
If this sounds feasible, it sounds like an approach that would remove the unknown "is his server up" factor.

Or I could be way off, and this can't be done.. ;)

bear, that sounds like a workable solution. I'll be honest and say we haven't started as we have been focusing on producing as high a quality signup script as possible. Once this is done we will work on that.

I understand, Alberto. You must be going a bit nuts about now...

Thanks for considering that method, and I hope it will afford you the protection you need. After all, no point in getting burned...
