What is its use? It is entered when adding new domains but I don't see when it would be used.

It isn't used at the moment. It will be used IF we do any control panel integration. You can hide it from the client though.

Is it exposed as a service we can utilize? (ie: if we wanted to write our own little script to execute when the link is clicked?)

Good question. At the moment it is just stored in the database in the users table. You may access it directly that way if you need to. That is really the only way at the moment, since we don't have an API just yet.

OK, I'm a bit confused.

When I set up a new client in WHM, I assign a password which is what the client uses to login to his cPanel and his FTP. And that goes out in his welcome email.

I just purchased CE. So when I add a client to the CE database, what am I entering in the password fileds? Since this is not integrated with cPanel/WHM yet, is this password that I am entering just the pw used to access his CE interface?

If so, if I get a new customer, I have to send out a welcome email with domain username, pw, FTP info, etc. Which is, as I can see, something that CE does for me. So where am I specifying, when setting up the new client, his cPanel password so that it shows up in his welcome email?

You specify that password with the account he is getting, in this case the domain. Basically the profile is just info for you to know about him the domain info is information about his account. So in the welcome email the [DOMAINPASSWORD] would be what you use for Ftp password and what not. IF you add another domain ( account ) for this customer that would allow you to assign different passwords for each one in the welcome email.

I see. So the password created when adding the client in CE is just for the customer to login to his CE interface. I guess, it's important to emphasize to the customer that this pw is separate from their cp password.

No this is the same password from the signup as we use the same one in both places. We didn't want to have two fields .. your control panel login password, your ce password..

So we just make that password work for both getting into ce and password for that domain to be used in welcome emails

but to clarify, CE DOES NOT interact with any control panel. So you create his password on cpanel, this is just storing the customers requested password. If you create something different it would be wise to go into CE and update the domain password to what you set it to be if different.

Hmm. Just one thing that might be confusing for the client. Let's say I get a new client. I set him up in WHM and create a pw for him for his cPanel/FTP access. I then set him up in CE and use the same pw for CE access. The problem is that the customer, when in either his CE panel or his cPanel interface, if he clicks to modify his password, he will undoubtedly believe that the new password will now be applicable to both CE and cPanel.

Correct this is an issue that we address by removing the ability to change password in our themes. Then once cpanel integration is complete it will be done by CE.

You need to make this clear to your customers in the welcome email
